Theon International Completes Acquisition of Kappa Optronics and Ramps Up Investment in Harder Digital
The Cypriot manufacturer of night vision and thermal imaging systems announced several strategic developments in January 2026, according to a press release issued on January 14.
Completion of Kappa Optronics Acquisition
Theon International finalized the acquisition of 100% of Kappa Optronics GmbH for a cash amount of 69.9 million euros on January 14, 2026, as stated in the press release. The transaction followed the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals. The group anticipates a contribution of approximately 40 million euros from Kappa to its consolidated revenues for the fiscal year 2026, in line with previously announced forecasts. This acquisition is expected to accelerate Theon's development in the platform market, the company specified.
Increased Investment in Harder Digital
Theon International is boosting its investment in Harder Digital beyond what was initially planned, in response to a growing global demand for image intensifier tubes that exceeds the current supply, the group indicates. The aim is to increase production capacity and enhance the main quality metric, the Figure of Merit (FOM), as well as other existing product features more rapidly. This acceleration is expected to improve the forecast profitability of Harder Digital starting from 2027, according to the press release. Theon will remain the primary purchaser of European tubes, including the new 5G variation, of which it was the first volume buyer. The group estimates that Harder Digital should account for 8 to 10% of its revenue target of 1 billion euros by 2029-2030.
Collaboration with Team Wendy Ceradyne
Theon International is partnering with Team Wendy Ceradyne in an initiative funded by the U.S. Army's DEVCOM Soldier Center, aimed at developing a prototype of a next-generation integrated head protection system for the U.S. Army. This program combines ballistic protection and advanced opto-electronic systems, with a prototype evaluation scheduled later in the fiscal year 2026, the company detailed. Additionally, Theon was accepted as a member of the United Nations Global Compact on January 6, 2026, reflecting its commitment to adhere to the initiative's ten principles concerning human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. The group was also recognized as the top performer of the Next 20 index at the Euronext Amsterdam Annual Awards 2025, based on the stock performance of the year.
