TotalEnergies Shares Bounce Back 1.41% at Close This Tuesday
TotalEnergies shares ended this Tuesday, January 20th session with a gain of 1.41%, closing at 56.90 euros. This increase brings the weekly performance to 2.88% and confirms the rebound that started three months ago, with a rise of 7.95% over this period. The stock of the oil giant is trading above its strategic moving averages, while the group continues its portfolio restructuring in Nigeria.
Technical Overview
From a technical standpoint, TotalEnergies shows a strong position with a price above the 200-day moving average of 53.34 euros. The stock is also trading above its 50-day moving average at 55.76 euros, confirming a positive medium-term trend direction. The 2.42 euros gap between the current price and the 200-day moving average illustrates the progress made since last autumn's low point.
The RSI stands at 51, indicating a balanced momentum without any overbought or oversold signals. This neutral zone allows the stock some room to grow before reaching constraining technical levels. The price is approaching the resistance threshold of 57.18 euros, whose breach could open up new short-term upward potential.
Strategic Portfolio Adjustments
In mid-January, TotalEnergies announced that its subsidiary TotalEnergies EP Nigeria has signed an agreement with Vaaris to divest its non-operated 10% stake in 15 oil production licenses of the Renaissance joint venture, representing 16,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in equity share by 2025. The group is also transferring its 10% interest in three gas licenses while retaining full economic rights on these assets, which supply 50% of the Nigeria LNG's feedstock, pending regulatory approvals.
On the analyst recommendations front, UBS and Jefferies reiterated their positive views at the beginning of January. UBS maintains a buy rating with a revised price target from 62 to 61 euros, while Jefferies has a more ambitious target of 66 euros, also accompanied by a buy recommendation. These targets suggest an upside potential ranging from 7.2% to 16% compared to the closing price of the day.
