Viridien becomes computing partner of the Rice AI Venture Accelerator
The French geoscience group is placing its high-performance computing infrastructure at the service of young scientific and industrial AI companies selected by a program from Rice University.
The agreement positions Viridien as a computing expertise provider to early-stage start-ups.
Viridien designated anchor partner for RAVA scientific computing
Viridien announced on September 9, 2026, that it has joined the Rice AI Venture Accelerator (RAVA) as an anchor partner for scientific computing.
This partnership aims to help scientific and industrial AI technology companies transition from innovation to commercial deployment. Under this framework, RAVA's early-stage start-ups will have access to Viridien's expertise in scientific computing, its scaling advice, and its infrastructure.
RAVA is an initiative led by Rice University and non sibi ventures, designed to promote the commercialization and adoption of AI within organizations, including Fortune 1000 companies and the public sector.
Computing capacity exceeding 700 PFLOPS
The press release specifies that Viridien has more than 70 years of experience in scientific computing and daily processes over one million HPC tasks across its computing centers.
Its computing capacity exceeds 700 PFLOPS, which places the group among the top five industrial HPC operators outside hyperscalers, according to Goldman Sachs cited in the press release.
The partnership is also expected to open pathways with Rice University's research, talent and innovation ecosystem as well as with the non sibi ventures network.

Andrea Course, interim executive director of RAVA, stated that Viridien was chosen for the depth of its expertise in scientific computing and its ability to operate and optimize large-scale computing environments.
Anil Vattalai, EVP HPC & Cloud Solutions at Viridien, declared that scientific AI creates opportunities but that many start-ups underestimate the complexity and cost associated with scaling computing, with the group intending to bring its optimization experience.
