Summer Vacation: 61% of French Choose France, Record Budget of €1,686

A Majority of French Choose France in Geopolitical Challenges

The Sofinscope barometer reveals that 64% of French people intend to go on vacation this summer, an increase of 9 points compared to 2025. Among them, 61% will favor destinations in France due to the current geopolitical climate. Additionally, 40% of French people traveling by car plan to go a shorter distance than initially intended, in response to the recent rise in fuel prices. The duration of stays is tending to increase: one-week vacations have decreased to 35% (-5 points), while two-week vacations have risen to 35% (+2 points), and vacations of three weeks or more have increased to 22% (+3 points).

Increasing Budget and Adaptation Strategies to Control Expenses

The average household budget for travel this summer amounts to 1,686 euros (up 88 euros compared to 2025), the highest observed by Sofinscope since 2012. For 73% of French people, going on vacation represents a significant financial effort. In response to this financial pressure, the French are developing strategies: 57% book as early as possible to get the best rates, 81% systematically compare prices before booking, and 28% use payment facilities (up 9 points). On location, 68% of French people now plan a strict budget for their expenses (up 8 points). The study also notes that 24% of French people use AI to plan their trips, a level comparable to that of social networks (22%). This proportion reaches 50% among 25-34 year-olds.
