Air France-KLM Open to Joint Offer with Castelake for EasyJet
Air France-KLM CEO Benjamin Smith clarified on Sunday that the Franco-Dutch group is not currently involved in discussions about a potential acquisition of EasyJet by the American fund Castelake, but would remain open to a partnership proposal.
Speaking to Bloomberg TV from Rio de Janeiro, Benjamin Smith stated that if Castelake were to propose that Air France-KLM participate in an offer for EasyJet, the group would consider it. 'Certainly. Yes. And I would expect all our competitors to do the same,' said the executive. He described EasyJet as 'a very impressive airline' and highlighted its strategic positions at certain European airports such as Geneva and London-Gatwick, as well as its low market capitalization. Castelake announced at the end of May that it was considering a 'possible offer' for EasyJet, without any certainty about the actual submission of an offer or its amount.

Air France-KLM already maintains a close commercial relationship with Castelake. The American fund is currently selling its shares in the Scandinavian airline SAS to the Franco-Dutch group, which is set to acquire the majority. 'It has gone well and it is still going well with them regarding SAS,' Benjamin Smith detailed. This operation is expected to receive regulatory approvals in 2026. In parallel, Air France-KLM is also participating in the privatization of TAP Air Portugal as a candidate for a stake acquisition.
