Airbus Secures Firm Order of 100 A320neo Aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital
SMBC Aviation Capital, a global aircraft financing platform, has finalized a firm order for 100 A320neo family aircraft from Airbus at the Farnborough Air Show on July 20, 2026. This acquisition increases the total number of commitments from the company and its parent company Sumitomo Corporation to more than 900 with the European manufacturer.
SMBC Aviation Capital confirmed the purchase of 65 A321neo and 35 A320neo. This firm order ensures a continuous delivery stream of next-generation aircraft to the financing platform until the mid-2030s.

This order continues the partnership established between SMBC Aviation Capital and Airbus over a quarter of a century ago. Peter Barrett, CEO of SMBC Aviation Capital, emphasized that this new order reflects the group's confidence in the long-term demand for the A320neo family, while Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales at Airbus Commercial Aircraft, highlighted these aircrafts' benchmark status among airlines, lessors, and investors.

The A320neo family offers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reductions compared to previous generations of single-aisle aircraft, while also providing one of the widest single-aisle cabins in the industry for passenger comfort.
