AkzoNobel strengthens powder coatings capabilities in North America
In a statement released on October 29, 2026, AkzoNobel detailed work carried out at its sites in Reading (Pennsylvania), Warsaw (Indiana) and Monterrey (Mexico). The group presents these as a way to expand its local production capacity and strengthen the regional supply chain for its customers.
Automotive, commercial vehicles and batteries among targeted markets
According to the group, the increase in capacity should boost local production of advanced powder coating technologies, used in automotive, commercial vehicles and industry. The investment should also support next-generation mobility, battery systems, energy storage technologies and other emerging manufacturing markets.
Jeff Jirak, General Manager of the Powder Coatings business and member of the executive committee, cited the rapid evolution of the industry: "our customers expect partners who invest alongside them". He added that the operation strengthens the North American production network and should improve the resilience of customers' supply chains.
Three new lines at Reading, capacity up 30% at Warsaw
The Reading site, which currently manufactures approximately 45% of the group's powder coating batches in North America, has been equipped with three new production lines, advanced bonding technology and automated process controls.
At Warsaw, capacity increased by 30% and headcount by 10%, while a new acrylics production unit was built in Monterrey. The group indicated that it is continuing its investments in training its teams on the operation of next-generation production technologies.
