Alstom Shares Bounce Back 2.5% After a €800M Order Outside Europe
The railway manufacturer regains momentum in mid-morning trading, buoyed by the announcement of a significant new order from outside Europe. The stock benefits from a well-oriented Parisian market and is recovering from an oversold zone, although it remains heavily penalized over the quarter.
An €800M Order in the AMECA Region Breathes New Life into the Stock
Alstom shares are up 2.54% at €15.52 in mid-morning trading, while the SBF 120 index has risen by 0.7%. The rebound follows the announcement of an order for approximately €800M worth of locomotives in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, recorded in the first quarter of the 2026/27 fiscal year. The name of the client and the details of the contract will be communicated later. This order adds to the €300M obtained in mid-June from the Egyptian National Railways, confirming an active commercial dynamic outside the European zone. The stock is thus among the highest risers in the SBF 120, in an index where Sodexo largely dominates today's ranking.
A Technical Rebound from the Oversold Zone, Below Broken Moving Averages
The 30-day RSI indicates seller exhaustion after a decline of 9.6% over a month and nearly 38% over the quarter. Today's rebound approaches its support at €15.01, with shares trading at €15.52 in mid-morning, but leaves the stock 3.3% below its 20-day moving average (€16.05) and 30.3% below its 200-day moving average (€22.27), indicating that the underlying trend remains poor. Based on expected earnings per share, the stock is trading at about 9.3 times current fiscal year earnings and 7.4 times next fiscal year's earnings according to the consensus of surveyed analysts. Another signal to watch is the continued high selling pressure: according to statements reviewed, five funds cumulatively hold 4.37% of the capital sold short, up 1.06 points over thirty days. This increase reflects continued skepticism among some institutional managers, without yet indicating a massive shift at this stage. The next important date on the calendar is the mixed general meeting scheduled for July 9.
