Among the best gainers of the SBF 120: Viridien stock gains 2% despite short sellers
The geosciences specialist advances mid-session, in a barely oriented Paris market. The security extends a marked weekly rebound, while short sales targeting it reach a high level for the listed stock.
A recovery that brings the price back above short-term moving averages
The Viridien stock gains 1.99% to €92.25, ranking 8th among the gainers of the SBF 120, which advances 0.11%. The security gains 9.04% over seven days and 15.31% over three months, but still loses 14.43% compared to its 200-day moving average, at €107.81. The price, however, returns above the 20-day moving average (€90.55) and the 50-day moving average (€90.50), at less than 2% variance for each. Brent, at $105.68 per barrel, gains 0.92% during the session.
The security, whose activity relates to energy, is evolving in this oil context without this link explaining the day's movement. The support at €82.80 is more than 10% below the price, resistance at €97.80 at approximately 6% above. The October 9 session had already seen the security rebound, which extends the recovery initiated last week.
Short sales rise to 9.78% of capital in one month
Nine funds now collectively hold a net short position of 9.78% of capital, according to consulted disclosures, the latest dated October 8. The level has increased by 3.30 points over thirty days, compared to 6.48% one month earlier. Such a share indicates that institutional investors remain positioned against the security or seek to cover an exposure, without their motivations being known.
The increase is rapid, but it coexists with a security regaining ground, which invites tracking this point rather than interpreting it in isolation. The next disclosure on this matter will allow measuring whether the pressure continues to grow.
