Atos selected by EDF to digitalize its EPR nuclear plants for export, up to 15 years
The partnership, which can last up to 15 years, focuses on the development of an Operations Information Management System (OIMS) intended for nuclear power plants built by EDF outside France. Announced on October 19, 2026, the agreement positions the IT services group in the segment of facility operations management, namely the phase that follows the handover of the plant to the customer.
A digital system to manage operations and maintenance
Atos announced that it has been selected by EDF as part of a partnership described as strategic and multi-year. It is centered on new international projects, specifically the export projects for the electricity company's EPR reactors.
The collaboration has a dual purpose: to advance nuclear operations on these export projects and to build an industrialized approach to data management, business processes and activities during facility operations.
Specifically, the partnership aims to result in the development of an OIMS ("Operations Information Management System"), presented by Atos as the digital backbone of a power plant. This system is designed to support the operation and maintenance activities of nuclear infrastructure.
A standardized model designed to be replicated outside France
Atos will be responsible for developing a scalable, standardized and reproducible OIMS model, designed to meet the growing number of new nuclear programs launched outside France. EDF's customers will also be able to rely on the international presence of the group and its network of partners, to the benefit of local operations.
According to the press release, cybersecurity, operational resilience and system control are placed at the heart of platform design. The system must meet requirements for data protection, traceability, regulatory compliance and risk management.
According to Xavier Ursat, EDF Group Executive Director in charge of strategy, technology, innovation and development, the partnership will enable international customers of EPR projects to have a complete turnkey solution, with the tools necessary to operate their plant "upon handover". He emphasizes digital continuity of data throughout the entire lifecycle of the facility, from design and construction through to operations.
Costs, availability and reliability: expected benefits of the platform
Among the expected benefits of the OIMS, Atos cites better cost management, planning and risk mitigation during the operational phase, as well as reduced downtime and optimized maintenance cycles. The group also mentions increased equipment reliability and safety through data consistency and traceability, and the guarantee of interoperability to prevent obsolescence.
Franck Chartier, Atos France Executive Director and Head, believes that the global nuclear energy revival calls for new approaches combining industrial performance, risk management, safety and program acceleration. According to him, the combination of EDF's operational expertise and Atos' capabilities in critical systems, industrial data and cybersecurity should lay the foundation for a next-generation platform.
Atos Group claims approximately 54,000 employees and annual revenue of approximately 7.2 billion euros in 54 countries.
