AXA share breaks through its support at €42.92, lagging behind in the CAC 40

The Paris-based insurer is posting the most pronounced decline in the French stock market's flagship index in early afternoon trading, despite relatively calm market conditions. The stock broke through its support level during the session, worsening a negative trend that has been underway for several weeks.

AXA breaks through its support at €42.92 and falls below its two short-term moving averages

AXA is down 2.58% to €42.37 in trading, deepening its decline below the €42.92 support level, a threshold breached downward during the session and below which the stock remains anchored. This breakthrough is all the more notable as the price now sits 3.40% below its 20-day moving average (€43.86) and 4.23% below its 50-day moving average (€44.24), two lines that form an immediate technical ceiling. Only the 200-day MA, at €41.38, remains below the current price, offering medium-term support but still nearly 2.40% away. The RSI at 46 is neutral, with no clear signal of seller exhaustion at this stage.

Today's decline is part of a difficult period for the stock: -3.51% over seven days, -2.84% over one month and -2.35% over three months, while the twelve-month performance remains positive at +4.46%. Since its mid-September peak, the stock has given back ground it gained following the presentation of the 2027-2029 strategic plan, which aimed for a distribution rate maintained at 75% of operating earnings per share. The group had also indicated when publishing H1 2026 results (on July 31, 2026) that it was "on track" to achieve the objectives of its "Unlock the Future" plan.

In terms of the analyst consensus, Goldman Sachs and Autonomous Research had raised their targets to €50 in September, representing a rebound potential of nearly 18% compared to the current price. Resistance at €45.06 appears to be the first obstacle to overcome before any recovery.
