Biotalys: its Evoca biofungicide approved in California, focus on Evoca NG
The Belgian biocontrol group has obtained registration of its Evoca biofungicide with the California pesticide authority. This decision is part of the group's refocused strategy around Evoca NG, presented as its first future commercial product.
Evoca registered in California, leading agricultural state in the United States
Biotalys announced on September 2, 2026 that the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) has granted state registration for Evoca, its first protein-based biofungicide. The approval follows the completion of the public consultation conducted in July and confirms, according to the company, that Evoca has met the state's requirements for human health, environmental safety and product efficacy.
California is the leading agricultural state in the United States and one of the world's major regions for producing high-value crops. This registration adds to the one obtained in Florida earlier in the year and to the prior approval from the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), received in December 2025.
A structuring step for Evoca NG
Evoca is based on the Agrobody technology platform, which supports the group's project portfolio. According to Carlo Boutton, chief executive officer of Biotalys, the California decision is "highly relevant" to the development of Evoca NG, the next-generation version of the product, based on the same active ingredient and Agrobody platform.
Evoca NG is presented as one of the flagship assets of the group's refocused strategy and is expected to become its first commercial product. The company aims for a market launch in the United States in 2029 and in Europe in 2030, on a combined market estimated at approximately 1.1 billion dollars according to a source cited by Biotalys. The regulatory review of Evoca meanwhile remains ongoing in the European Union.
