BNP Paribas Share: Stock Slides Nearly 2%
The bank retreats in late morning trading, as the CAC 40 index also declines. After a rebound session the previous day, the share falls back into negative territory, while French debt remains under scrutiny and analysts have revised their targets in recent days.
A Share Below Its Short-Term Moving Averages, Approaching Its Support Level
The BNP Paribas share declines 1.88% to €93.30, among the largest falls in the CAC 40, which retreats 0.35%. The share is below its 20-day moving average (-4.01%) and its 50-day moving average (-8.12%), but remains slightly above its 200-day moving average (+1.47%), which outlines a short-term decline within a still-preserved underlying trend. The support level at €90.05 was briefly breached on Monday before the share rebounded: it now stands approximately 3.5% below the current price. The dividend of €3.23 was detached on September 24, which partly explains the difference between the share's gross performance over one month and that adjusted for dividends, of -7.7%.
On the macro front, the yield on the 10-year OAT was 4.72% on October 6, according to the Banque de France, or 18 basis points below its peak on October 1. The spread with the Bund reaches 1.27 points. BNP Paribas historically evolves inversely to this OAT-Bund spread, a sensitivity observed over twelve years, not a forecast.
Two Brokerage Firms Lower Their Price Targets for the Stock
The analyst consensus is tightening downward. Kepler Cheuvreux lowered its target from €110.30 to €96.50 while maintaining a hold rating, which leaves a potential of approximately 3.4% compared to today's price. Alphavalue, for its part, reduced its target from €122.00 to €101.00 with an accumulate rating, or approximately 8% above the current price. Both of these revisions date from October 5.
Details of analyst opinions can be found on the stock's factsheet. On the appointments front, BNP Paribas announced on October 5 that Annie Pin will take over as Chief Executive Officer of Arval on April 1, 2027. Alain van Groenendael, who has led Arval since January 2019, will become Chairman of the Board of Directors at that time. According to the consensus of surveyed analysts, the share is trading at approximately 8 times the earnings of the current fiscal year and 7 times those of the following fiscal year.
