BNP Paribas shares rank among the strongest gains of the CAC 40
The bank delivers one of the best performances of the CAC 40 this Friday, in a nearly stable Paris market, driven by the momentum of the banking sector. However, the stock remains under pressure over the month and below its short-term moving averages, which underscores the significance of today's rebound.
A session rebound that is not yet sufficient to erase the monthly decline of 6.7%
The BNP Paribas share gains 1.21% to €99.62 in trading, ranking among the strongest gains of the CAC 40 while the index remains balanced. The stock's rebound, which gains 1.21% to close at €99.62, keeps it above its technical support threshold of €98.43. Over one month, the stock is still down 6.72%, and over the week 4.01%: today's gain partially offsets this recent decline, without erasing it. Over twelve months, however, the increase remains solid at over 27%, reflecting an underlying trend still favorable despite the correction underway since early September.
Below its short-term moving averages, in a context of firm rates and AI partnership signed yesterday
Technically, BNP Paribas is still trading below its 20-day moving average at €102.27 (deviation of -2.59%) and its 50-day moving average at €105.92 (deviation of -5.95%), two thresholds that hinder a sharper recovery. The RSI at 35, while not signaling extreme oversold conditions, reflects the bearish exhaustion of recent weeks and leaves room for a more pronounced rebound if buying flow confirms itself. The macro context is nevertheless weighing: the prospect of higher US rates for longer, amid robust PMI and firm Fed rhetoric, maintains pressure on refinancing conditions. Banks remain historically sensitive to ECB key rates and inflation in the euro zone, two variables still under tension.
Furthermore, the five-year partnership signed on September 24 with Google Cloud, focused on the deployment of agentic AI, illustrates the group's digital transformation strategy. The valuation at analyst consensus stands at approximately 8.6 times expected earnings for the current fiscal year, with expected EPS growth of 14.4% the following year. The return of the stock above its short-term moving averages remains conditional on the presentation of the 2030 strategic plan, scheduled for February 2, 2027, the next structural milestone for the value.
