Bureau Veritas: SBTi validates its Scope 3 method and 2030 targets
The inspection and certification group has had its revised methodology for calculating value chain emissions validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.
This approval covers both the methodology and the reduction targets set for the 2030 horizon.
A more granular Scope 3 calculation method
Bureau Veritas stated that it has revised its Scope 3 calculation approach to adopt a more granular methodology, presented as providing a clearer picture of the origin of emissions.
According to the group, this development facilitates the identification of decarbonization levers and more accurately reflects the impact of its actions on its carbon trajectory.
This work included the renewal of historical emissions to ensure consistency and comparability over time, as well as the definition of new Scope 3 targets aligned with the latest climate science.
SBTi validation confirms the rigor of the approach
The group qualified the validation by the SBTi, covering the methodology and targets, as an important milestone confirming what it says is the rigor of its approach and the credibility of its climate commitments.
Bureau Veritas specified its intention to accelerate its decarbonization efforts by working alongside its suppliers, customers and partners, and reaffirmed its intention to report on its progress toward its 2030 targets.
The SBTi is a climate action organization that develops standards, tools and recommendations enabling companies and financial institutions to set science-based targets, while its subsidiary SBTi Services Limited ensures the validation of these targets.
