Genfit stock among the strongest gains in the SBF 120 following its quarterly results
The Lille-based biotech company specializing in hepatic and metabolic diseases is regaining ground this Wednesday, posting one of the sharpest rebounds in the index. This upturn occurs in a context of high recent volatility, against a backdrop of short-selling positions showing marked progression over the past month.
A clear technical rebound but a stock still below its two first moving averages
Genfit gains 4.75% intra-day at €9.93, against an SBF 120 nearly flat (-0.05%). The stock thus ranks among the strongest gainers in the index, though this rebound only partially offsets the 30.95% decline accumulated over the month. Short-term momentum remains constrained: the price is trading well below the 20-day moving average at €11.81 (gap of -15.92%) and the 50-day moving average at €13.02 (gap of -23.73%), two thresholds that represent significant ceilings for any sustained recovery.
Conversely, the 200-day moving average at €9.47 remains below the current price, offering support 4.86% below current trading levels. The RSI at 31, still close to the oversold zone where it has been trading in recent days, reflects the exhaustion of the selling phase from the recent correction. Resistance at €14.52 remains very distant, while support at €8.92 represents the first safety net in case of a reversal.
Half-yearly results scrutinized and bearish positions showing sharp progression over one month
The rebound follows the first half of 2026 results published on September 28, which showed cash reserves of €113.8 million and a tripling of royalties from Iqirvo to €21 million. However, the net loss widened to €26.1 million, compared to €10.0 million a year earlier, which had weighed on the stock the previous day. In parallel, institutional selling pressure surged: according to filed declarations, two funds now cumulatively hold 1.27% of capital sold short, a position that increased by 1.27 percentage points over thirty days, starting from zero.
This rapid rise in bearish bets reflects a lack of confidence from a segment of institutional investors regarding the company's prospects, though it is not possible to determine their precise motivation. Over one year, the stock remains up 214.2%, despite a decline of 5.97% over three months, illustrating the extreme volatility characteristic of this biotech value.
