Ipsen share falls nearly 3% after breaking through its resistance level
Ipsen closes a contrasting week on a negative note, while the CAC 40 advances over 1% during the session. The decline of the biopharmaceutical laboratory stands out against the general trend of a well-oriented Paris market, in a context of low volatility.
A marked decline that erases the resistance peak touched at the start of the session
The Ipsen share declines 2.84% to €164.40 in mid-afternoon, following a strong opening. The stock had indeed broken above its resistance level at €169.20, touching an intraday high of €169.30, before pulling back sharply to fall below this level. This reversal illustrates the difficulty for the security to establish itself durably beyond this threshold.
The weekly momentum nevertheless remains slightly positive, with a gain of 0.61% over seven days, and today's decline does not affect longer-term performance: +3.59% over one month and +40.75% over one year. The SBF 120, meanwhile, advances 1% during the session, placing Ipsen among the index's steepest declines.
Moving averages support the stock despite an RSI signaling exhaustion
Despite today's decline, Ipsen maintains a positive technical configuration on major trends. The stock is trading above its three moving averages: 1.99% above the 20-day MA at €161.20 and 1.34% above the 50-day MA at €162.22, which both form a first natural support level. The 200-day MA at €150.36 remains well below the current price, with a gap of 9.34%, reflecting an upward trend established over the year. However, the RSI at 62 approaches the overbought zone, which may explain the exhaustion observed after breaking through the resistance at the start of the session.
On the fundamentals side, during the publication of first-half 2026 results on July 30, the group raised its annual targets: sales growth expected above 20% at constant exchange rates and operating margin above 37%. Furthermore, the acquisition of Kartos Therapeutics finalized on August 24 enriched the laboratory's portfolio with navtemadlin, an experimental Phase III treatment for myelofibrosis. The support level at €153.10 now constitutes the reference level in case of increased decline.
