Lakefront Biotherapeutics NV (formerly Galapagos NV) has completed the sale of its early-stage cell therapy portfolio to Armed Cell Therapeutics BV. The acquirer is a Belgian biotechnology company developing so-called "armed" CAR-T therapies against cancer. It was founded by Paul Stoffels, John Mellors and Peter Verhaeghe.
The preclinical program transferred is based on technology and research work from AboundBio, acquired by Lakefront in 2022. The divested assets include multi-targeted and armed CAR-T constructs designed to enhance CAR-T potency and persistence and prevent treatment resistance in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors with significant unmet medical need.

Under the terms of the agreement, Lakefront receives an upfront payment of €8M. The group may also receive up to $230 million in milestone payments, as well as a low single-digit royalty.
Sooin Kwon, head of business development at Lakefront, indicated that this divestment opens a path for continued development of these assets. It also allows the group's shareholders to benefit from any future progress. Sooin Kwon added that Lakefront has a new portfolio of T-cell engagers and what it describes as "solid" cash reserves.
