Ontex Focuses on Skin Health to Differentiate in Personal Hygiene
On World Skin Health Day, Ontex emphasizes the growing importance of skin protection in its personal hygiene products. The company shares research results showing the extent of skin irritation issues among users.
Skin Irritation: A Widely Underestimated Reality
According to a survey conducted by Ontex in 2024-2025, nearly one in two people living with incontinence suffers from dermatitis or skin irritation. Clinical studies indicate that up to one in five people develop skin lesions in care settings, revealing the magnitude of the challenge for users and caregivers. Dr. Maria Panourgia, a geriatrician at Milton Keynes University Hospital (UK), notes that 'about 80% of caregivers are not trained to recognize dermatitis,' highlighting educational gaps in care management.
Products Designed Around Skin Protection
In the adult care sector, product performance is no longer limited to absorption. Ontex is directing its strategy towards maintaining dry skin, protecting the skin barrier, and preventing irritation, especially for aging-related sensitive skin. The newly launched Sensitive range reflects this focus: it combines up to 2.5 times faster absorption than previous designs, hypoallergenic materials, and a superior surface enriched with ingredients like zinc oxide, intended to prevent irritation. In feminine care, Ontex research and external data confirm a shift in demand towards pH-balanced, microbiome-friendly, and 'natural on the skin' products. Annick De Poorter, Director of Innovation and Sustainability, states that 'at Ontex, the direction is clear: in personal hygiene, skin health is part of product performance. We design products that protect the skin and make this level of care accessible on a daily basis.'
