SpaceX Wants a Spaceport in Louisiana to Launch Starship Thousands of Times Per Year
On August 25, 2026, SpaceX and the State of Louisiana unveiled their intention to build a dedicated Starship launch facility on the Gulf Coast, presented as designed to support a very high firing rate.
A Site Designed to Multiply Starship Launches
SpaceX and the State of Louisiana announced the project to develop a high-frequency spaceport for Starship on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. According to the company, this expansion should allow SpaceX to launch Starship thousands of times per year.
The announcement was presented by Gwynne Shotwell (President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX), Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, and Susan Bourgeois from the Louisiana Economic Development agency.
Ten Launch Pads, an Airport, and Natural Gas Supply
The site is described as self-contained, designed to have all the equipment necessary to increase Starship's launch rate. It is to include ten launch pads for Starship, deep-water port capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an airport.
The location in southern Louisiana provides access to natural gas that SpaceX indicates it wants to use for the site's power plants and liquefy on-site to produce the liquid methane that powers Starship. Initial civil engineering work is expected to begin next year, and a first launch from the site is envisioned as early as 2029.
