Stellantis stock leads CAC 40 after a 50% decline over one year
Stellantis posted the best performance on the CAC 40 this Friday, with the Paris index itself trending upward. The rebound occurs while the stock remains burdened by a slide of more than 50% over one year, in a market context marked by tensions on French sovereign debt.
A rebound at the top of the CAC 40 despite a target price reduction by CIC Market Solutions
During the session, Stellantis gains 4.97% to €4.04, erasing part of the ground lost since the announcement of temporary production stoppages at three French plants in October. The CAC 40 advanced 1.1% on its side, which makes the automaker's movement all the more visible. CIC Market Solutions lowered its price target on September 30, bringing it down from €5.50 to €4.50, while maintaining its "hold" rating — a level which, at the current price, still represents potential upside of around 11%. On a monthly cumulative basis, the stock is nonetheless down 12.92%, and down 21.53% over three months. September registrations had also illustrated a relative underperformance: Stellantis only advanced 1.75% in France, compared with 7.8% for the overall market, even though the group remains the leader on a year-to-date basis.

Despite this rebound, the chart configuration remains constrained. The stock is trading at €4.04, or 6.54% below its 20-day moving average (€4.32) and 11.84% below its 50-day moving average (€4.58). The 200-day MA, at €6.21, remains far above, at a gap of nearly 35%. The RSI at 30 is approaching oversold territory, which reflects accumulated selling exhaustion over several weeks without constituting a reversal signal.
The nearest resistance level is located at €4.80, a level the stock has not revisited in several weeks. During the publication of first-half 2026 results (July 30), Stellantis highlighted the 7% growth of its Pro One division, while acknowledging that aligning electric van prices with diesel was weighing on margins. According to the consensus of analysts surveyed, the stock is trading at around 7 times expected earnings for the current fiscal year, a low multiple that reflects persistent uncertainty about the group's trajectory. The €4.80 resistance constitutes the first hurdle to overcome for today's rebound to gain substance.
