Technip Energies Secures €250-500M Contract for Mumbai Refinery
The engineering group announced on October 12, 2026 that it has been selected by Indian company Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited for a modernization project at its Mumbai refinery. This award concerns two refining units designed to be integrated into an already operational site.
Two units to be delivered for the LMBU project at Mumbai refinery
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract concerns the Lube Modernization and Bottom Upgradation (LMBU) project led by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at its Mumbai refinery in Maharashtra State, India.
Technip Energies must deliver an integrated hydrocracking and catalytic dewaxing unit (IHCD) with a capacity of 550 kilotonnes per year, as well as a solvent desasphalting unit (SDA) of 850 kilotonnes per year. According to the press release, these two units represent a significant part of the LMBU project and will be integrated within the operating refinery.
An order classified as "large", representing €250 to 500M in revenue
Technip Energies qualifies this contract as "large". According to the group's classification system, this category corresponds to an award representing between 250 million and 500 million euros in revenue. By way of reference, the group achieved revenue of 7.2 billion euros in 2025.
From an industrial standpoint, the project aims to modernize HPCL's base oil production for lubricants, components used in the manufacture of automotive engine oils and industrial lubricants. It should also enable the conversion of heavier refinery streams into higher-value products.
An order intake recorded in the third quarter of 2026
The order will be recorded in the order backlog of the Project Delivery segment for the third quarter of 2026.
Loïc Chapuis, President of Project Delivery and Services at Technip Energies, indicated that this award is part of a relationship between the two companies spanning more than two decades. He specified that the group will be responsible for delivering the new units and their integration into existing facilities.
