TotalEnergies Share Leads the CAC 40
TotalEnergies tops the CAC 40 on Monday in an almost stable Paris market. The rebound occurs after a difficult week for the stock, which had fallen more than 2% over seven days, and is accompanied by two major developments released last Friday concerning the group.
Leading the CAC 40, the share returns to contact with its 20-day moving average
TotalEnergies gains 1.61% to €75.87, touching its MA20 at €75.70. This is the strongest increase in the CAC 40 during the session, while the index remains flat (-0.02%). Shell, the only comparable value available, also rises 1.14% during the same session, in an oil sector that is recovering. The share remains well above its MA50 (€72.79, a 4.2% gap) and its MA200 (€68.84, 10.2% below).
The RSI at 48 is neutral, far from extreme zones, while the MACD remains in slightly negative territory (histogram at -0.38), signaling that bullish momentum is not yet fully confirmed. Support at €71.14 remains far below the current price, and resistance at €78.32 represents the next threshold to overcome to confirm a return to the upper zone. Over one year, the share shows a performance of 41.81%, which places the weekly correction within a solidly positive underlying trend.
Arctic LNG 2 exit and EP Gabon results: two major updates released on Friday
Two important announcements concerning TotalEnergies were released on Friday, August 28. First, the complete exit from the Russian Arctic LNG 2 gas project was finalized, with the group retaining a repayment right for shareholder loans estimated at approximately 1.3 billion dollars, with payment remaining conditional on the current sanctions regime. Next, the Gabonese subsidiary EP Gabon reported a net profit of 51 million dollars for the first half of 2026, more than double compared to the 22 million dollars recorded one year earlier, driven by a favorable price environment despite a 4% decline in revenue linked to lower marketed crude volumes.
These elements are part of a context of Q1 2026 results released on August 27, which showed organic production growth of 4% and the completion of the merger of the group's British assets. According to the consensus of surveyed analysts, the share is trading at approximately 8.1 times expected earnings for the current fiscal year, a modest valuation in the context of the annual rebound. The €78.32 resistance level remains the technical benchmark to monitor for the coming sessions.
