Valneva stock loses 3% but maintains a monthly gain of 33%
After approaching its key resistance level on Wednesday, Valneva is losing momentum this Friday, giving ground in an SBF 120 index itself oriented downward. The decline occurs while the stock maintains an exceptional monthly gain, in a context of globally calmer markets despite persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
A 3% decline that brings the stock back within distance of its 3.07€ resistance
Valneva loses 3.05% to 2.92€ during the session, after closing the previous day at 3.01€. This decline places the Lyon-based laboratory among the strongest declines in the SBF 120, in an index that itself is down 0.33%. The stock nevertheless remains solidly anchored above its short and medium-term moving averages: it surpasses the 20-day MA by 6.64% (at 2.74€) and the 50-day MA by 20.74% (at 2.42€), which testifies to the strength of the rebound accumulated over recent weeks.
The resistance at 3.07€, briefly touched on Wednesday during the SBF 120's best performance, was not breached and the price is pulling back from it. The RSI at 67 signals a tight configuration without reaching the overbought zone, leaving room before any more pronounced technical exhaustion. The long-term support remains distant, at 2.08€.
A monthly gain of nearly 34% contrasted by fundamentals still under pressure
Over one month, Valneva displays a surge of 33.73%, one of the most spectacular in the SBF 120 over the period, driven by an uptrend sequence since late July. Over one year, however, the loss reaches 23.67%, reminding of the structural fragility of the case. The first-half results published on August 13 had revealed a net loss deepened to 63.3 M€, in a context of declining product sales, although the group had confirmed its annual targets. On the regulatory front, the EMA accepted in August to examine the authorization application file for the candidate vaccine against Lyme disease, co-developed with Pfizer, which represents a key step in the group's trajectory.
On the short-seller side, three funds cumulatively hold 2.70% of capital sold short, according to filed declarations, a significant decline compared to the 3.38% recorded thirty days ago. This gradual disengagement of bearish positions, which nonetheless remain present, is worth following without drawing hasty conclusions about market sentiment. The analysts' opinion on the stock remains a context element to monitor in the coming weeks, as the price consolidates below its 3.07€ resistance.
