Vicat: nearly €7M invested with Derichebourg in a CSR unit in Meuse
The two groups have strengthened their joint venture VALèreCO to develop a new industrial unit in the Grand Est region, designed to produce an alternative fuel supplying a cement plant of the Isère-based cement manufacturer.
The project is part of an industrial cooperation between the two groups dating back to the early 1990s.
A CSR production unit in Pagny-sur-Meuse
Derichebourg Environnement and Vicat announced on September 2, 2026 the strengthening of their industrial cooperation through their joint venture VALèreCO, born from the company Valerco recently renamed. The two groups have been working together since the early 1990s, historically in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, where Derichebourg Environnement's Purfer subsidiary produces alternative fuels for Vicat's cement plant in Montalieu-Vercieu (Isère).
The new project concerns the construction of a production unit for solid recovered fuels (SRF) in Pagny-sur-Meuse (Meuse), in the Grand Est region. This facility is expected to produce 34,000 tonnes of SRF per year, intended primarily to supply Vicat's cement plant in Xeuilley (Meurthe-et-Moselle), which produces low-carbon cement.
An investment of nearly €7M and regional support
The project represents an investment of nearly €7M. The maximum production capacity is stated at 40,000 tonnes of SRF, with the facility occupying an operating area of 3,000 m². According to the groups, the system should make it possible to avoid approximately 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year by replacing fossil fuels.
The Grand Est region supports the project as part of its "Grand Est - Aid to Large Enterprises" programme, the project being considered strategic for the region. The GIP Objectif Meuse has been supporting the initiative for several months and will shortly examine the possibility of providing support.
Short supply chains between production and consumption
The project is based on short and local supply chains: the SRF will be produced less than 50 kilometres from the place of its consumption. Guy Sidos, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vicat, stated that "the development of alternative fuels is one of the key levers in our climate roadmap towards carbon neutrality by 2050".
Thomas Derichebourg, Chief Executive Officer of Derichebourg Environnement, for his part linked the project to the reduction of landfilling of non-recyclable waste and the strengthening of energy security in the territories.
