Weighed down by 12.5% over the quarter, Accor stock rebounds on its support level
The multi-brand hotel group is regaining ground in trading, in a rising Paris market. The stock is emerging from a series of declining sessions that left it below its three moving averages, and the security is trading near a technical threshold it has already tested.
A rebound anchored on the 43.70 € support after a difficult quarter
The Accor stock gains 1.69% to 44.44 €, while the CAC 40 advances 0.38% and the SBF 120 rises 0.44%. The stock rebounds almost precisely on its support at 43.70 €, the closing level from the previous day, after losing 3.18% over a week and 12.69% over three months. The movement remains modest compared to this decline: it moderates it without offsetting it.
The price remains below its three moving averages, 2.69% below the MA20 (45.67 €) and 3.33% below the MA200 (45.97 €), and the RSI at 36 reflects a security still marked by recent selling pressure. The resistance at 47.47 € remains distant. The stock ranks in the first half of the index during the session, without appearing among the strongest gainers of the CAC 40, with BNP Paribas, leading the way, gaining more than 3%.
A share buyback program and rising bearish bets
Accor launched on July 30th a share buyback program worth 225 million euros, executed at approximately 24% as of October 2nd, or 54 million euros already repurchased. Over twelve months, the group repurchased 228 million euros of shares, representing 2.2% of its market capitalization. Conversely, declared net short positions reach 2.60% of capital, driven by three funds, compared to 1.50% one month ago: an increase of 1.10 points in thirty days.
According to the declarations consulted, this level signals a bearish positioning that has strengthened significantly, although the intentions of the funds concerned cannot be inferred from this. These two elements, buybacks and short bets, have coexisted on the security since the end of summer. The stock's next earnings milestone remains the 43.70 € threshold to monitor in the coming sessions.
