X-FAB and Cadence Automate Semiconductor Design Migration Across Nodes
X-FAB Silicon Foundries has expanded its collaboration with Cadence to offer an automated approach to migrating designs between semiconductor process nodes. The solution combines X-FAB's process expertise and PDKs (design kits) with Cadence's Virtuoso Studio technology.
An Automated Migration Solution from 1 µm to 110 nm
X-FAB and Cadence deliver a migration methodology assisted by Cadence's Virtuoso Studio software. This approach enables the transition of designs between different process geometries, from micrometer to 110 nanometers. A pilot project has already validated the migration of a 180 nm design to 110 nm, according to the press release.
The solution tightly integrates the Cadence migration environment with X-FAB's PDKs. Cadence provides the migration framework and circuit re-optimization tools, while X-FAB contributes its process expertise and component mapping between technologies.
Integration of Mapping Files and Complexity Reduction
X-FAB's clients receive dedicated mapping files that allow for precise translation of components between technologies. This approach reduces complexity while preserving critical performance parameters.

The collaboration is part of an established relationship between X-FAB and Cadence covering several areas of automated design (EDA). It adds a dedicated focus on migration processes.
