Xilam Initiates Production of 'The Wolf', an Animated Feature for Adults
Xilam Films has greenlit the production of an adult animated feature titled 'The Wolf', an adaptation of the graphic novel by Jean-Marc Rochette. The film, co-produced with Bidibul Productions and supported by Crunchyroll, is scheduled for completion in April 2027; Goodfellas will handle international marketing and ARP will distribute it in theaters in France.
An Adaptation Directed by the Creators of 'I Lost My Body'
The project is co-written and directed by Benjamin Massoubre and Fursy Tessier, who previously collaborated on the feature film 'I Lost My Body', nominated for the Academy Awards in 2020. Sabine Dabadie joins the creative team as a co-writer. The film blends 3D animation techniques with traditional drawings to create a cinematic effect with a pictorial aesthetic.
Production Partners and Distribution
'The Wolf' is produced by Xilam under the leadership of Marc du Pontavice, co-founder and CEO of the studio. Bidibul Productions (Luxembourg) is co-producing, Goodfellas is managing international distribution, and ARP is handling theatrical distribution in France. The streaming platform Crunchyroll has pre-purchased global SVOD broadcasting rights (excluding China and Japan). The project receives support from the Film Fund Luxembourg, CNC through its Technical Assistance for Animation program, Réunion region, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and the Charente department.
A Prestigious Cast for Voice-Over
The voice cast will be led by César Award winner Roschdy Zem, known for his roles in 'Days of Glory' and 'Chocolat', and Virginie Efira, winner of the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, seen notably in 'All of a Sudden' and 'Elle'. Their performances surround the main character, Gaspard, a hardened shepherd haunted by the loss of his son, whose story unfolds in the Alps in a quest for revenge against a wolf that decimates his flock.
