Biotalys: Biofungicide EVOCA Gains First Approval in the United States
Biotalys has announced via press release that its innovative biofungicide, EVOCA, has been registered in the state of Florida. This marks the first approval of an AGROBODY biocontrol by a U.S. state.
First Approval for AGROBODY Technology in the United States
The Florida Department of Agriculture has approved EVOCA based on the broad spectrum of use previously approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This protein-based biofungicide helps control key fungal diseases such as Botrytis and powdery mildew in fruits and vegetables. Carlo Boutton, interim CEO of Biotalys, emphasizes that Florida is the second largest U.S. state in terms of production of key fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, tomatoes, and bell peppers.
Regulatory Progress in California and Europe
In California, the Department of Pesticide Regulation continues its review of EVOCA, with its Human Health Assessment Department having accepted the EPA-approved label. Approval is currently projected for the second half of 2026. In Europe, the regulatory review is progressing with a two-month public consultation phase set to launch this week. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Dutch Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products (CTGB) will then review the comments before the file proceeds to the decision phase.
