Theon Sensors Secures €40M Contract with Rheinmetall in Electro-Optics
Theon Sensors SA, a subsidiary of Theon International Plc, has entered into a strategic agreement with Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH for the development, qualification, and serial production of a stabilized multi-sensor electro-optical system based on PHYLAX technology. This agreement signifies Theon's entry into the segment of advanced electro-optical solutions for combat vehicles.
Integration of the PHYLAX System
The PHYLAX system, selected by Rheinmetall for integration into the stabilized electro-optical gun sight SEOSS 210 P, will be equipped on the compact 25 mm caliber turrets developed by Rheinmetall for modern land platforms. The PHYLAX system is a compact, stabilized electro-optical system that incorporates a high-definition day camera, a mid-wave thermal imager, and an eye-safe laser rangefinder within a compact and lightweight architecture optimized for integration on unmanned turrets and remote weapon stations.
Transition to Serial Production
Following the development and qualification activities aligned with the initially agreed timelines, the program is expected to transition to serial production in connection with the fire control system of the Luchs 2 reconnaissance vehicle, with an initial contract value exceeding €40 million for several hundred systems. Additional quantities are anticipated depending on the integration of the system on other vehicle platforms and turret programs.
Expansion of Production Facilities
Theon has initiated the construction of a new facility in Athens, the third building in the series, dedicated to the production of PHYLAX and other products based on the platforms. The facility is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2027 to meet the anticipated needs for increased capacity. The project is estimated to cost around €10 million and is already included in the investment expenditure plans for 2026-2027.
