Airbus Delivers First A321XLR to Saudia from Order of 15 Aircraft
On Monday, Saudia took delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, marking its position as the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate this aircraft. This is the first of 15 A321XLRs ordered by the Saudi airline.
The new A321XLR, equipped with CFM International LEAP-1A engines, is part of Saudia's fleet modernization program; this narrow-body aircraft offers a range of 4,700 nautical miles and allows for the expansion of the international network with a low-density configuration (24 Business + 120 Economy seats) providing an experience similar to a wide-body aircraft. This delivery strengthens a partnership between Airbus and Saudia that dates back over 40 years, beginning with the first delivery of an A300 in 1984. Saudia currently operates over 100 destinations across four continents.

The A321XLR accommodates a total of 144 passengers: 24 seats in Business Class with direct aisle access and 120 seats in Economy Class. The aircraft features the Airspace cabin, offering an experience comparable to that of a wide-body aircraft on a single-aisle frame. The A321XLR achieves a 30% reduction in fuel consumption per seat compared to previous generations. All current Airbus aircraft can operate with 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the manufacturer aiming for a 100% capability by 2030.
Alignment with Saudi Vision 2030
This acquisition aligns with Saudia's strategy to develop its international network in support of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The A321XLR will contribute to increasing connectivity and capacity, supporting Saudi Arabia's ambition to welcome over 150 million annual visitors by the end of the decade.
