Alstom Secures a 393 Million Euro Contract in Greece
The French group has signed an agreement with Hellenic Train for the supply of 23 Coradia Stream electric multiple units, according to the press release. The contract also includes the maintenance of the trains over a 10-year period.
Details of the Train Supply
The agreement covers the delivery of 23 electric multiple units intended for the Greek rail network, the company states. Eleven trains will be allocated to suburban lines, while the remaining twelve will serve long-distance intercity routes. Each train will consist of six cars, with a capacity of 335 passengers for intercity trains and 362 seats for suburban trains, the press release details. The maximum speed of the trains will reach 160 km/h. The design and production will be carried out at Alstom's manufacturing site in Savigliano, Italy. The Coradia Stream electric trains will be equipped with the ERTMS level 2 traffic control system and comply with European standards and technical specifications for interoperability, according to the group. The units will feature large luggage racks, power outlets for electronic devices, as well as spaces designated for bicycles and strollers. A digital passenger counting system with high-precision sensors and a dynamic audio and visual information system will also be installed, the press release indicates.
Contract Details and Maintenance Program
The contract, valued at 393 million euros, includes associated maintenance services for a period of 10 years, according to the group. The maintenance program encompasses preventive maintenance activities, scheduled overhauls, and repairs. The fleet will be maintained in a depot in Athens provided by Hellenic Train, which will be customized to ensure the maintenance of the 23 Coradia Stream trains, the press release specifies. A control room equipped with the latest digital tools, including HealthHub, Alstom's solution for predictive and condition-based maintenance, will oversee the fleet management, the company indicates. The Coradia Stream trains are designed to be easy to maintain and equipped to collect precise maintenance data, according to the group. Alstom maintains over 35,500 vehicles worldwide, the press release states.
The Coradia Stream's Place in Alstom's Portfolio
The Coradia Stream trains are part of Alstom's Coradia range, regional trains that have been present in Europe for over thirty years, according to the group. To date, Alstom has sold more than 4,500 Coradia regional trains worldwide, the press release indicates. Several European countries, including Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Romania, already use the Coradia range, the company specifies. In total, over 800 Coradia Stream regional trains have been ordered in Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Romania, and Bulgaria. The trains destined for Italy have been in service since mid-2019, while in Romania, the Coradia Stream began carrying passengers in November 2024, according to the press release. The Coradia Stream also offers emission-free solutions, such as battery and hydrogen traction, for non-electrified lines, the group indicates. The contract will be accounted for in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2025/2026 of Alstom, the press release specifies.
