Biotalys: Biofungicide Evoca Enters Public Consultation in California
Agricultural biotechnology company Biotalys announced on Wednesday that its biofungicide Evoca has entered the public consultation phase with the Californian regulator. This step follows a positive opinion from California's health assessment branch, bringing the candidate closer to approval in the largest agricultural state in the U.S.
Public Consultation Launched After Positive Review
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) initiated the public consultation phase for the Evoca dossier on Wednesday, following a favorable recommendation from its health assessment branch. This branch concluded that the data and information submitted by Biotalys support the registration of the product in California.
The public consultation will last until July 26, allowing stakeholders and the public to comment on the proposed decision. After this period, the CDPR will review the feedback received and is expected to move towards a final regulatory decision in the second half of 2026.

California is the largest agricultural state in the United States, with a production of fruits and vegetables including strawberries, tomatoes, and grapes, making it a strategic market for Biotalys' biocontrol portfolio. This progress comes a few months after the regulatory approval of Evoca in Florida, the first U.S. approval of a biofungicide developed by the company.
Evoca is a protein-based biocontrol intended to combat fungal diseases such as botrytis (gray mold) and powdery mildew. Its approval would pave the way for the regulatory submission of Evoca NG, a next-generation version of the product, with commercial launch planned in the U.S. in 2029 and in Europe in 2030.
