ENGIE Signs Power Purchase Agreement with Apple in Italy
ENGIE has entered into a 15-year renewable electricity supply agreement with Apple, involving the construction of 173 MW of new capacity in Italy. According to the announcement, 80% of the energy produced will be allocated to the American group.
Details of the Power Purchase Agreement
Under this Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), ENGIE plans to construct two agrivoltaic facilities with a total capacity of 88 MW, two wind farms totaling 74 MW, and to repower a third wind farm of 11 MW. According to the group, these facilities located in Southern Italy are already authorized and are expected to become operational between 2026 and 2027. The expected annual production exceeds 400 GWh. Apple will benefit from 80% of this energy produced, with the remaining 20% being fed into the Italian electrical grid, which according to ENGIE corresponds to the annual needs of about 30,000 households. The group estimates that these facilities will help avoid the emission of over 160,000 tonnes of CO? annually, equivalent to the emissions from nearly 70,000 conventional cars.
ENGIE's Global Market Position Strengthened
ENGIE has signed 4.3 GW of renewable PPAs in 2024, positioning the group as a key player in this market globally according to the announcement. These long-term contracts enable client companies to secure stable energy prices, reduce their exposure to market volatility, and decrease their carbon footprint. For Edouard Neviaski, Deputy CEO in charge of the GBU Supply and Energy Management at ENGIE, this agreement with Apple reflects the group's ambition to offer renewable solutions with diversified technologies. Italy represents a flagship market for this commitment, where ENGIE meets the growing demand from companies seeking reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
ENGIE's Renewable Energy and Storage Development Plan in Italy
This project is part of ENGIE's renewable energy and storage development plan in Italy, aiming to achieve an installed capacity of 1.6 GW by 2030. The group already has a portfolio in the country with 773 MW of installed capacity, either operational or under construction, including 18 photovoltaic plants (250 MW), 20 wind farms (474 MW), and 4 storage batteries (49 MW). ENGIE, which employs 98,000 staff across 30 countries, reported a revenue of 73.8 billion euros in 2024. The group invests over 10 billion euros annually to advance the energy transition and achieve its goal of net zero carbon by 2045.
