Eutelsat Partners with Voimatel to Deploy LEO Services in Finland
On Monday, Eutelsat signed a partnership agreement with Voimatel, one of the leading Finnish telecommunications and critical digital infrastructure operators, to deploy its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity services across Finland.
Integration of Satellite and Terrestrial Connectivity
This agreement enables Voimatel to integrate Eutelsat's LEO services into its network solutions, combining satellite and terrestrial connectivity to enhance critical telecommunications infrastructures. The Finnish operator will thus be able to offer resilient and redundant communications to businesses and public sector clients, whether they are located in urban, rural, or remote areas. Voimatel designs and operates fixed and wireless telecommunications networks for telecommunications operators, energy providers, and public administrations in Finland. The integration of Eutelsat's OneWeb LEO services will allow it to offer coverage in high-latitude Nordic regions, particularly in Arctic territories where terrestrial coverage may be limited.
Eutelsat's LEO Constellation in Polar Orbit
The partnership highlights the utility of Eutelsat's LEO constellation in polar orbit for Arctic and high-latitude areas. Eva Bisgaard, President of Eutelsat's Connectivity Branch, stated that this partnership demonstrates "the increasingly important role of LEO connectivity in serving critical telecommunications infrastructures." Mikko Heinonen, CEO of Voimatel, added that Eutelsat's LEO services "enhance the ability to meet the needs of its telecommunications and data network clients throughout Finland," emphasizing that the low latency and Arctic coverage will bolster existing capabilities.
