Haffner Energy Partners with Mundi Energies to Expand its Technologies in Canada
French group Haffner Energy announced on December 18 a partnership with Mundi Energies to market and deploy its renewable energy production technologies in Canada. A joint venture will be established to structure a network of production sites called Multi-Energy Hubs.
Formation of a Strategic Joint Venture
According to the press release, the partnership is based on the creation of a Canadian joint venture owned 51% by Mundi Capital, an affiliate of Mundi Energies, and 49% by Haffner Energy. This entity will be tasked with marketing and deploying the French group's technologies in Canada, adapting systems to local standards. Haffner Energy will provide the engineering and equipment that are central to its technology. Mundi Energies, described as a sister company of Machinerie Dubois, thus becomes the operator for the deployment, marketing, and licensed manufacturing of Haffner Energy's technologies in Canada. The partnership aims to structure a network of renewable energy production sites capable of addressing the country's energy sovereignty and transition challenges.
Initial Deployment in Quebec
According to the company, twenty Multi-Energy Hubs will initially be deployed in Quebec, with the ambition to replicate them across Canada thereafter. These sites aim to convert residual biomass into local renewable energies. They will primarily produce renewable natural gas and green electricity. The renewable natural gas produced will be injected into existing gas networks, while the biogenic CO2 will be valorized. The press release states that these hubs will integrate several complementary technologies to enhance their competitiveness and resilience. The sites developed by Mundi Energies and Machinerie Dubois will target the decarbonization of the agricultural and forestry sectors.
First Firm Order Scheduled for 2026
According to the group, the first firm order is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. It will involve a 5 MW syngas production module, for a minimum amount of 4.2 million euros, aimed at producing biomethane and biodiesel. This will be the seed project of the joint venture. Haffner Energy, with 32 years of experience in converting biomass into biofuels, has developed proprietary technologies for thermolysis and gasification that enable the production of renewable gas, hydrogen, methanol, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. The Canadian partner Mundi Energies brings industrial, financial, and project management expertise, as well as securing the supplies necessary for project deployment.
