La Française de l'Énergie Secures Hydrogen Exploration Permit in Moselle
On January 28, 2026, La Française de l'Énergie was granted an exclusive permit for the exploration of natural hydrogen in Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle, initially valid for 5 years.
Exclusive Exploration Rights
La Française de l'Énergie (Euronext: FDE - ISIN: FR0013030152) has been granted the exclusive 'Three Bishoprics' permit for natural hydrogen exploration in Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle, in the Grand Est region. The permit covers an area of 2,254 square kilometers over the Lorraine basin and extends until January 28, 2031. This permit positions the company in the exploration of natural hydrogen, which is naturally produced in the subsoil.
Significant Findings from Initial Drilling
The PTH-2 drilling at Pontpierre, initiated in October 2025, confirmed a significant increase in hydrogen concentration measured from a depth of 2,000 meters, after two and a half months of work. These preliminary results, achieved without impacting the aquifers, build on the initial discovery of naturally dissolved hydrogen in high quantities at the Folschviller well in 2023. The 2026-2031 work program includes completing the drilling up to 4,000 meters, new concentration measurements across the Lorraine basin, validation of the renewable nature of hydrogen generation, and the development of suitable production technologies. The REGALOR II program, led by FDE, received a grant of 8.8 million euros in December 2025 from the Just Transition Fund of the Grand Est Region and the European Union.
