Orange stock rises 1% and holds ground in a declining CAC 40
The telecommunications operator closes the session higher in a Paris market oriented downwards, marking one of the rare advances in the index. The stock returns to touch its twenty-day moving average, a threshold it had not reached again for several weeks amid downward pressure.
A rebound counter to the CAC 40 trend in a context of 'super week' for central banks
The Orange stock closes at 15.73 €, up 1.19% compared to the last Friday session. The CAC 40, for its part, ends down 0.85% and the SBF 120 also falls 0.85%, in a day marked by tensions in the bond markets. Orange is thus among the rare gainers in the Paris index, ranked 12th out of 40 members, without reaching the top positions in the ranking.
The macro environment nevertheless weighs on the session. The Fed meets next Wednesday, the Bank of England on Thursday, and the Bank of Japan on Friday. U.S. inflation came in at 3.4% year-on-year in August, slightly above July's pace, fueling expectations for a U.S. interest rate hike as soon as this week.
In this context of rates under pressure, high-yielding telecoms stocks like Orange can be perceived as a relative safe haven. The VIX, an indicator of implied volatility in the American market, surged 9.34% during the session to 17.32, reflecting increased nervousness as these monetary meetings approach.
The price returns to touch the MM20 but remains below its long-term moving averages
In terms of trend indicators, Orange returns to touch its twenty-day moving average at 15.68 €, with a positive gap of only 0.32%. This is a level that the stock had lost during the break of the 15.76 € support at the end of August, in a move that had then intensified the underlying downward pressure. The price, however, remains significantly below the MM50 at 16.06 € (gap of -2.05%) and the MM200 at 16.45 € (gap of -4.38%).
The RSI at 46 remains neutral, with no oversold or overbought signal, which leaves the technical configuration open in both directions. Today's rebound brings the price back in immediate proximity to contact with the MM20, while the next resistance threshold is located at 16.61 €. In fundamental terms, Orange had raised its annual targets upon the publication of its first-half 2026 results (on July 28, 2026), supported in particular by double-digit growth in Africa and the Middle East and by taking exclusive 100% control of MasOrange in Spain.
The group had also finalized a 4.1 billion euro bond issue in four tranches on September 8, 2026. The MM20 at 15.68 € now constitutes the first threshold to confirm at close to validate the strength of this rebound.
