Thales Share Falls Further and Threatens Its 225 € Support Level
Thales declined sharply on Tuesday, with the CAC 40 also moving lower. The defense and electronics group is trading below its main moving averages, in a market context weakened by a marked increase in volatility.
A decline that widens the gap below key moving averages at 20 and 50 days
The Thales share fell 2.13% to €238.50, bringing its weekly loss to nearly 5%. The stock is now clearly trading below its 20-day MA, which stands at €259.37, representing a gap of more than 8%. It is also falling below its 50-day MA at €242.59 and its 200-day MA at €242.65, two nearly identical averages that form a double technical ceiling to break through.
The MACD is sending a pronounced negative signal, with a histogram at -3.62 and a MACD line (0.91) well below its signal line (4.53), reflecting a short-term bearish dynamic. The RSI at 39 remains in bearish territory without reaching the oversold zone: it does not rule out a continuation of the move before potential selling exhaustion signals. The support identified at €225.10 constitutes the next reference level to the downside.
A market context under pressure, with the Exail bond issuance in the background
The session takes place in a globally degraded stock market environment: the CAC 40 fell 0.5% in the session, while the VIX surged more than 10% to 15.95, signaling a notable increase in risk aversion in equity markets. Thales is among the most marked declines in the index, ranking 35 out of 40 members. On the corporate front, the group had raised 1 billion euros in bonds in late August to finance the acquisition of Exail, announced in early July.
This two-tranche operation, with distinct maturities and coupons, demonstrates the magnitude of the financial commitment linked to this acquisition. Over one year, the stock remains positive at nearly 6%, but the short-term correction brings the price back to levels close to its long-term averages, which analysts and the market will monitor to assess the strength of the forthcoming rebound. The resistance at €271.90 remains more than 14% away.
