TotalEnergies Acquires 35% Stake in Plastic Energy at Grandpuits Plant
The group has acquired the 35% stake held by Plastic Energy in the chemical plastic recycling plant in Grandpuits, Seine-et-Marne. The transaction is part of the capital restructuring of its partner.
An Acquisition Linked to Plastic Energy's Capital Restructuring
TotalEnergies has agreed to acquire, from Plastic Energy's new shareholder, the stake held by the latter in the Grandpuits chemical recycling plant. Until now, TotalEnergies held 65% of this plant and Plastic Energy held 35%.
This transaction is part of Plastic Energy's capital restructuring. Following the acquisition, the plant is now entirely owned by TotalEnergies.
A Pyrolysis Unit with a Capacity of 15,000 Tonnes Per Year
The Grandpuits plant started operations in March 2026 and has a processing capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year of plastic waste. It transforms French plastic waste, notably from "the yellow bin", which is difficult to recycle and currently buried or incinerated, into synthetic oil through a pyrolysis process, which consists of heating waste at high temperature without oxygen.
This process makes it possible to treat mechanically non-recyclable waste and produce circular raw material intended for petrochemistry, as a substitute for fossil feedstock. The synthetic oil produced allows for the manufacture of recycled plastics compatible with the most stringent applications, notably food and medical uses.
Secured Supply with Citeo and Paprec
TotalEnergies signed an agreement in 2023 with two French partners, Citeo and Paprec, to secure long-term supply of plastic waste to the unit.
