TotalEnergies Announces New Oil Discovery in Angola and Acquires New Permits
On the sidelines of the Angola Oil & Gas Conference, TotalEnergies presented several advances in its exploration program in Angola, combining a new oil discovery with agreements for access to new permits in the Lower Congo Basin.
These announcements are part of the company's presence in a country since 1953 and which ranks among its main contributors to hydrocarbon production.
Acacia-5 Brought Into Production Three Months After Discovery
TotalEnergies (38%, operator) announced the discovery of Acacia-5 on Block 17. Production startup will occur three months after the discovery, made in June 2026, leveraging available capacity from the FPSO Pazflor. This discovery will increase Block 17 production by 6,000 barrels per day.
Acacia-5 constitutes the second exploration success recorded in 2026 in the group's Angolan portfolio, following a discovery made on Block 0, in the Lower Congo Basin, where TotalEnergies holds a 10% stake alongside Chevron, operator.
Agreements to Enter Multiple Exploration Blocks
TotalEnergies signed agreements with the Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (ANPG) to acquire an operated 40% stake in exploration blocks 17/25 and 32/21, located in the Lower Congo Basin. According to the group, these blocks benefit from existing 3D seismic coverage and are located near the facilities of Blocks 17 and 32, where six FPSOs are in production, which would allow for future connections to existing facilities.
Furthermore, TotalEnergies signed in February 2026 an agreement (Head of Agreement) with the ANPG and ExxonMobil to enter with a 35% stake in exploration blocks 40, 41, 42 and 58 in the Benguela Basin. Patrick Pouyanné, Chief Executive Officer, indicated that "exploration is a pillar of our ambition in Angola".
