TotalEnergies Launches Umm Shaif Gas Cap: Targeting 600 Million Cubic Feet Per Day by 2030
TotalEnergies has announced the final investment decision (FID) for the Umm Shaif Gas Cap development within the Umm Shaif and Nasr offshore concession in the United Arab Emirates, where the group holds a 20% stake alongside ADNOC, CNPC, and ENI. This project follows the 40-year concession award in 2018 and strengthens the French group's presence in the region's gas value chain.
A Decision that Strengthens Abu Dhabi's Gas Portfolio
The Umm Shaif Gas Cap project will enable the production of over 600 million cubic feet of gas per day by 2030, maximizing condensate recovery through the development of the gas dome resources located above the oil reservoirs in the field. The potential for longer-term growth could increase production up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, supporting the United Arab Emirates' long-term gas growth strategy. By leveraging synergies with existing offshore facilities and clean electricity supplied by the UAE grid, the development is designed to minimize costs and limit emissions.

This investment decision underscores TotalEnergies' role as the technical leader (Asset Lead) of the concession, alongside ADNOC and its partners. It comes just weeks after the award in June of the Bab Gas Cap concession, in which TotalEnergies holds a 10% stake, marking an acceleration in the development of Abu Dhabi's gas resources. The group has been present in the United Arab Emirates for 87 years and is among the major contributors to hydrocarbon production, with a presence that spans the entire energy value chain.
