TotalEnergies stock climbs and targets its resistance at 81 €, RSI at 61
In a slightly declining CAC 40, TotalEnergies stands out as an exception and ranks among the rare stocks in positive territory. The group is benefiting from Brent crude once again crossing the 100 dollars per barrel threshold, in a tense geopolitical context around the Gulf, and from an upward revision of the price target by BofA Securities published the previous day.
Brent above 104 $ and a geopolitical context supporting the stock
Brent is trading at 104.91 dollars per barrel in today's session, up 3.66%, and is posting a gain of nearly 16% since the end of August. Geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, with American strikes on Iranian tankers and Houthi drone attacks on Saudi infrastructure, are maintaining a high risk premium on energy. Crude oil and petroleum product flows crossing the Strait of Hormuz fell to approximately 4.9 million barrels per day in the second quarter of 2026, compared to 21.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the U.S. EIA.
This contraction in flows is fueling significant pressure on global inventories and refining margins, particularly for diesel in Europe. Shell, a comparable sector stock, is advancing 1.83% in today's session in this same context. On the operational side, TotalEnergies announced on September 7 the transfer of the operator role of the Papua LNG project to ExxonMobil, while reducing its stake to 20% and maintaining its share of LNG volumes, a step bringing the project closer to its final investment decision.
Analysts revise their target upward, technical configuration remains well-oriented
BofA Securities raised its price target on TotalEnergies on September 9 from 82 to 87 euros, while maintaining its buy rating, representing an upside potential of approximately 10% compared to the current price of 79.19 euros. That same day, CIC Market Solutions confirmed its hold rating with a target of 86.54 euros. The stock is trading above its three moving averages: it is trading 3.54% above the 20-day MA at 76.48 euros and more than 7% above the 50-day MA at 73.89 euros, while the 200-day MA at 69.59 euros is now surpassed by nearly 14%.
The RSI at 61 reflects a bullish momentum without excess, far from the overbought zone. The resistance at 81.02 euros represents the next threshold to overcome to extend the movement.
