Alstom Secures First €69M Segment of a €219M Framework Contract for Queensland Rail
Alstom has been awarded the first segment of a €219M framework contract for the modernization of the Brisbane Sunshine Coast line. This project is part of the extensive digitalization program of Queensland's railway network in preparation for the 2032 Olympics.
An ETCS Signalling System for the Sunshine Coast Corridor
Alstom has won the contract from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads to supply a Level 2 Onvia Control ETCS signalling system. The solution will be implemented on the Sector 1 North of the Brisbane Sunshine Coast line, covering existing and newly constructed sections along the North Coast Line up to the Sunshine Coast. The system will ensure improved capacity, safety, and reliability of the network, while maintaining uninterrupted passenger service during the works. Alstom will handle the design, supply, testing, and commissioning as the ETCS lead contractor, in partnership with Queensland Rail and several civil engineering firms.
A First Segment of €69M within a €219M Framework
The first segment of the contract amounts to €69M (114 million Australian dollars). This award is part of a multi-year €219M framework contract for the implementation of the ETCS system across Queensland. The project marks a key milestone in the state's transition to a high-capacity, digitally controlled railway network, in preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Creation of Local Jobs and a Centre of Excellence
The project will generate local jobs and training pathways in Queensland, with the creation of a Mobility Supply Chain Centre of Excellence. Alstom aims to enhance national railway capabilities and develop a skilled local workforce through apprenticeship programs, internships, cadet training, and partnerships with schools and universities in Queensland.
