Alstom stock hits two-year low at €14.51
The Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine railway manufacturer hit a new intraday low on Thursday, breaking its previous 2024 record loss. The decline occurs against a backdrop of European market pressure, with bond yields weighing on valuations.
A two-year low recorded this morning, despite a growing order book
The Alstom stock lost 2.09% to €14.52 in trading, after touching €14.51 intraday, marking a two-year low that erases the previous 2024 floor set at €14.52. This decline comes as the framework agreement with Northrail signed at the InnoTrans Berlin trade show, announced Wednesday, was insufficient to reverse the trend. The stock has now accumulated a loss of 9.19% over one month and 32.62% over one year, in a downward momentum extending for several weeks.
Yet the company had confirmed when publishing Q1 2027 results (July 22, 2026) organic revenue growth of approximately 5% and an adjusted operating margin target of around 6.5% for the current fiscal year. The market appears to place little weight on these prospects, in a rate environment that is compressing valuation multiples: according to analyst consensus reviewed, the stock is trading around 9.3 times expected earnings for the current fiscal year, representing a contained valuation for an industrial stock.
Deteriorated technical configuration and short sellers still present
On the technical indicators side, the price is trading well below its three moving averages: the 20-day MA at €15.87 represents a gap of 8.51%, the 50-day MA at €16.04 of 9.48%, and the 200-day MA at €20.46 of 29.03%. The RSI at 37 is approaching oversold territory without firmly crossing into it, reflecting persistent selling pressure without a clear exhaustion signal. The nearest resistance stands at €16.91, far above the current price, while the stock has just broken down through its former support at €14.83 — a level that had temporarily held the previous week.
On short positions, five funds cumulatively hold 4.57% of capital sold short according to filed declarations, a high level that has remained virtually stable over thirty days (it stood at 4.62% a month ago). This stock of bearish positions, maintained without notable acceleration, reflects sustained wariness among some institutional investors toward the stock, though it does not signal an abrupt surge in pressure. The next level to monitor remains the low recorded this morning at €14.51, now the new reference floor over two years.
