BNP Paribas and Google Cloud seal a 5-year AI partnership

A five-year agreement focused on Google Cloud infrastructure and AI

BNP Paribas and Google Cloud have concluded a five-year partnership. It expands the bank's access to Google Cloud infrastructure and its AI capabilities, including Gemini Enterprise and Gemini models.

According to the terms disclosed, Google Cloud technologies will support the expansion of BNP Paribas' infrastructure and AI capabilities as the bank moves toward a broader deployment of agentic AI. The agreement strengthens the group's existing multi-cloud and multi-model approach, within its data security and governance framework.

Deployment begins at CIB and already operational at Nickel

The partnership will give BNP Paribas access to Gemini Enterprise to build, evaluate and deploy agents tailored to specific business needs. Deployment is beginning within BNP Paribas Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB).

Google Cloud technologies and Gemini have already been deployed at Nickel, BNP Paribas' payment account activity attached to the Commercial, Personal Banking & Services (CPBS) division. Gemini serves as the foundational model for Nickel Assist, a tool that helps 200 customer advisors respond to customer requests based on Nickel's procedures and operational rules.

Security and governance governing public cloud usage

The use of Google Cloud will follow BNP Paribas' existing data security and governance requirements, which determine the types of data and workloads that can be processed in a public cloud environment. Certain categories of data will not be stored in a public cloud environment.

Each agent will be authenticated and will only have access to the resources necessary for the task assigned to it. The connection of AI agents to the group's information systems and their interactions will be monitored and controlled. The partnership will also contribute to the group-wide AI adoption program.
