Christian Dior: Sales Down 2% Over Nine Months, China Weighs on Fashion
The Christian Dior group recorded sales of 57.1 billion euros over the first nine months of 2026, with organic growth of 2%. On a comparable structure and exchange rate basis, they increased by 2%. On a reported basis, they declined by 2%, to 57.1 billion euros compared to 58.1 billion a year earlier, due to a currency effect of -3% and a scope effect of -1%.
In the third quarter, organic growth stood at +1%, after +3% in the second quarter. According to the statement published on October 12, 2026, this pace reflects a less favorable environment in China, while the United States, Europe and Japan experienced strong growth.
Fashion and leather goods, which represent nearly half of the group's sales, declined by 5% organically in the quarter. All other divisions showed growth over the same period.
Selective Distribution and Jewelry Lead Growth
In the third quarter alone, sales reached 18,504 million euros, compared to 18,280 million a year earlier. Over this period, the scope effect was -2% and the currency effect was +2%. The quarterly profile of organic growth was +1% in the first quarter, +3% in the second and +1% in the third.
Selective distribution recorded the highest organic growth: +6% over nine months and +8% in the third quarter, with sales of 12,476 million euros. On a reported basis, the division declined by 1%, with the difference corresponding to structure and currency effects. The group notes that most DFS activities were divested and that Sephora gained market share in several countries, with the opening of Belgium and Croatia.
Watches and jewelry advanced 8% organically over nine months (+4% on a reported basis), to 7,725 million euros, and 6% in the third quarter. The statement attributes this performance to jewelry, with Bvlgari reporting record sales for its Eclecttica line.
Wine and spirits showed +5% organic growth over nine months and +6% in the third quarter, at 4,027 million euros. The group cited signs of recovery in champagne, notably in Europe, and the launch in the United States of a Hennessy ready-to-serve cocktail range. Fragrances and cosmetics remained flat organically over nine months (+1% in the third quarter), at 5,922 million euros.
Fashion and Leather Goods Penalized by Chinese Slowdown
The group's leading division achieved 26,391 million euros in sales over nine months, compared to 27,611 million a year earlier, representing a 4% reported decline and 2% organic decline. The quarterly breakdown shows organic growth of -2% in the first quarter, +1% in the second and -5% in the third, with sales reaching 8,245 million euros compared to 8,497 million.
According to the statement, this business continues to benefit from the dynamism of the American market, but was penalized in the last quarter by slowing demand in China. The weight of this division explains why its decline impacts overall growth, despite progress in other activities.
The group highlights the creative renewal of its houses: the 130th anniversary of the Monogram at Louis Vuitton, demand described as particularly strong for ready-to-wear and leather goods at Christian Dior Couture under the direction of Jonathan Anderson, and the opening of a House of Dior in Milan in September, following Osaka in May. In terms of scope, Marc Jacobs was divested to WHP Global on September 1st.
Group Says Confident Despite Uncertain Environment
Looking ahead, the group describes an economic and geopolitical environment that remains "uncertain". It states that "the Group remains confident and will maintain a strategy focused on the continuous strengthening of the desirability of its brands", leveraging the quality of its products, its distribution and the responsiveness of its organization.
