Colruyt Group Named Fairtrade Frontrunner for the 3rd Consecutive Year
Colruyt Group has been recognized once again as a Fairtrade Frontrunner by Fairtrade Belgium for its structural commitment to fair trade. The retailer has won first place in the 'Beyond Certification' category, reaffirming its intention to exceed the minimum standards.
An Award Given for the Fourth Consecutive Year
Fairtrade Belgium annually publishes its Frontrunner Scorecard, a ranking that analyzes the fair trade performance of partner companies. Colruyt Group is among the distinguished companies, notably recognized for its commitment through the volume of Fairtrade certified products marketed, the visibility given to this certification in its communication, and its initiatives that exceed the standard requirements of the label. In the 'Beyond Certification' category, Colruyt Group ranks first for the third consecutive year, standing out through active investments in structural solutions beyond the minimum price guarantees and premiums paid by Fairtrade.
A Living Income for Cocoa and Banana Producers
The group highlights its strategy to combat structural poverty by guaranteeing a living income to producers. By 2025, Colruyt Group has generated a Fairtrade premium of €307,774 paid to producer organizations for collective investments such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education. The Boni cocoa program in Ivory Coast exemplifies this approach: beyond the Fairtrade price, a minimum price corresponding to a living income is guaranteed, along with long-term commitments and support aimed at improving productivity and quality. Colruyt Group emphasizes that these initiatives strengthen the empowerment of women and the well-being of children in the concerned communities.
Sectoral Collaboration for a Sustainable Transition
Colruyt Group participates in sectoral initiatives such as Beyond Chocolate and contributes to awareness through webinars and communication actions aimed at more sustainable value chains. The group asserts its role as a pioneer while calling on all players in the Belgian food sector to converge towards a common goal: to ensure a decent income for producers, a goal that Colruyt Group aims to achieve by 2030.
