Colruyt reopens its Louvain store in September 2026, focused on sustainability
Colruyt Group has announced the reopening of its Colruyt Meilleurs Prix store in Leuven, located on Lombaardenstraat, scheduled for September 9, 2026.
The renovation highlights several sustainability-oriented choices, applied to the construction and equipment of the retail point.
Renovated butcher shop and new store layout
The store, with an area of approximately 1,500 m², underwent a layout redesign. The butcher shop has been renovated and now integrates the delicatessen counter, displayed in refrigerators presented as more sustainable.
According to manager Tom Smets, meat-based products are grouped in the same location and prepared by butchers in an open workshop. The retail point has also been equipped with a new bread display unit and a Sushi Corner offering Asian specialties.
The store employs 31 staff members and 4 butchers.
Sustainability at the heart of the renovation
Colruyt Group states that sustainability has been made one of the priorities of this project. LED lighting with motion detectors enables energy savings of approximately 30%, and a new refrigeration system equipped with a heat recovery system ensures the store's heating.
This installation operates on propane, reducing the carbon footprint of the cooling system by more than 90%. The store also produces its own energy thanks to solar panels installed on the roof.
The parking lot has 105 spaces, 9 charging stations for electric vehicles and 46 new bike racks accommodating 95 bicycles. The reopening is accompanied by a festive week and welcome discounts, as well as an action aimed at Leuven students on September 21, 2026.
