Exmar signs 10-year FSRU contract in Abidjan, EBITDA of $21.3M annually
Belgian maritime group Exmar has concluded agreements with two Ivorian public companies for the provision and operation of a floating storage and regasification unit for liquefied natural gas in the port of Abidjan. The project aims to supply the country's electricity production from imported gas.
A ten-year lease agreement with CI-Energies and Petroci
Exmar announced on September 17, 2026, that it has concluded agreements with Côte d'Ivoire Energies (CI-Energies) and the National Petroleum Operations Company of Côte d'Ivoire (Petroci) for the ten-year lease of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) of 152,000 m³ and 250 MMSCFD, as well as for its operation and maintenance.
The unit will be positioned in the port of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Petroci will purchase LNG on the international market to import it via Exmar's FSRU from the third quarter of 2027, then deliver the regasified LNG to CI-Energies for electricity production.
Expected annual EBITDA of approximately $21.3 million
According to the statement, the contract is expected to generate annual EBITDA of approximately $21.3 million. The lease term is set at ten years.
The project, according to Exmar, responds to growing demand for gas and electricity in Côte d'Ivoire as well as additional demand from neighboring countries. It was established as a priority by President Ouattara at the beginning of his fourth term, at the start of the year.
Two public partners in the Ivorian energy sector
Petroci Holding, Côte d'Ivoire's national oil and gas company founded in 1975, is present throughout the entire oil and gas value chain. CI-Energies, a state-owned company created in 2011, operates in the country's electricity sector.
Africa-based energy company Mundus Africa acted as transaction adviser for this project. Exmar operates a fleet of 40 LPG and ammonia carriers and is developing several FLNG and FSRU projects.
